Happy Christmas
The first term has flown by. The children have all made so much progress and grown in confidence in their own abilities.
We started our writing topic, by reading The Tin Forest. We have spent our time thinking about descriptions and using expanded noun phrases. In our final piece of writing, we rewrote the story, trying to include all the skills we have learnt.
In maths we have been practising adding and subtracting, using a range of equipment. We have realised that when we used the equipment it helped us see our maths thinking and we found it easier to get the correct answer. We have just started to learn about multiplication and have been counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s.
We have been using Rekenreks to practice our number bonds. By the end of the year, we should be able to answer any calculation up to 10 without using our fingers or counters. We can show you our skills on the online version below.
In PE we have been practising our throwing and catching skills. As the sessions continued we became a lot more accurate with our throws.
In science we have been learning about the property of materials and how they can be changed. We have loved doing experiments in the last few weeks. We made exploding snowmen using vinegar and bicarb, and were amazed at how the bags expanded and exploded. We also looked at the best type of wrapping for presents, and enjoyed shaking the box as if we were bouncing about on the back of Santa's sleigh.

In RE we have been looking at the story of Christmas. We have also been practising our songs ready for the church service next week. We hope you enjoy it. Thank you to all the adults who have offered to walk with us to church.
We hope you all have a happy Christmas, and look forward to seeing you next year, ready for another exciting topic.
