  • Summer Term

    Published 18/04/24, by Jo Macrae

Although it was a short week, it was a busy one.

We settled back into school, checking we all knew the school rules about keeping our equipment tidy, using the phrase:

"Choose it, use it, put it away."

On Thursday we nearly had a talk from the local fire service, but unfortunately they were called away, so they will come and see us another time.

We loved spotting signs of spring in the woodland area. We are very good at spotting minibeasts. We also noticed a couple of nests which we will keep an eye on over the next few weeks.

We are starting to think about people who help us and the children came up with lots of ideas. Our role play has turned into an Opticians and we are testing each other's eyes.

  • Happy Easter

    Published 28/03/24, by Jo Macrae

Our final week of our second term has flown past.

The adults have been seeing how we are doing with our phonics, and they are all really pleased with everyone's progress. Our writing is also amazing, lots of us remember to use finger spaces now without needing to be reminded.

Thank you to everyone who came to Church for our Easter service despite the wet weather. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

We hope you have a relaxing Easter break and look forward to seeing you in the summer term, when hopefully it will be a bit warmer!

  • Spring

    Published 22/03/24, by Jo Macrae

This week we have been thinking about Easter and spring.

We have been learning about the Easter story and why we celebrate Easter.

In our music session we had great fun copying a rhythm on the chime bars, some of us found this quite a challenge.

We managed a dry session in the woodland and noticed lots of new signs of spring. We were watched the whole time by two robins that sang for us.

On Friday, we came to school with our Easter bonnets, and we paraded them during assembly. We had some fantastic creations.

In maths, we have been doing more adding and we are getting really confident writing number calculations.

    Published 08/03/24, by Jo Macrae

We all looked amazing on World Book Day and could talk about who we were.

We have also been learning about the story of the Three Little Pigs. We have been acting it out, building houses and writing parts of the story. The adults are really pleased with our writing and how we are forming our letters.

In maths, we have been learning about + sign, and the words we can use for it. We have been solving calculations using our fingers, cubes and Numicon.

Our tadpoles have been hatching over this week and we are loving watching them develop.

  • Dinosaurs

    Published 29/02/24, by Jo Macrae

This week we have been doing our learning through the topic of dinosaurs. We have been learning about their sizes and what they eat. We have been measuring the dinosaurs in class using cubes and numberlines and comparing their sizes.

On Thursday we came to school in pyjamas. We thought about what we would need if we slept outside, and how cold and wet we could get at this time of year.

On Friday we found we had a tank of frogspawn in our classroom. We have been very excited looking at it and talking about how they will grow into tadpoles and then frogs.

We are loving our PE lessons, this week we were thinking about different ways of moving.

  • Busy Week!

    Published 23/02/24, by Jo Macrae

We returned to school for a very busy week. We learnt about the celebration of Chinese New Year. We made lucky envelopes, learnt how to write Chinese numbers and tried using chopsticks. We also learnt about the story about how the years are associated with different animals.

We also has a visit from a local author and enjoyed hearing her story and working with her afterwards.

We braved the weather and enjoyed a muddy time in the woodland. We saw lots of frogspawn and thoroughly enjoyed jumping in the puddles on the way back to class.

On Friday it was our first PE lesson and we loved it! We found out how to find a space and move round the hall safely.

  • Wonderdome and Pancakes!

    Published 09/02/24, by Jo Macrae

This week we continued learning about space. We had a fantastic time in the Wonderdome where we pretended to journey into space. We looked at the planets and discovered some were very hot and some were very cold. We saw how the space rockets landed on the moon and mars.

On Friday we celebrated a late Shrove Tuesday (Pancake day). We learnt about how to make them and thought about what toppings we would like on them. We finished the day with us all having a pancake with a choice of toppings.

We have been practising reading all our tricky words in phonics and the digraphs we have learnt since Christmas. Please help us to spot and recognise these in books at home and in signs around us.

  • Space

    Published 02/02/24, by Jo Macrae

This week we have been learning about space. We started by thinking about what we would need if we were travelling into space. We made a rocket in our role play and we have been enjoying going to the moon. We also found out that in space there is no gravity so things float about. We watched a video of how you drink water in space; it was very different from on earth.

In maths we have been learning to say what is one more or one less than a number to 10. We also practised using our sentence starter - I can show this by.....

In phonics we have been learning to read longer words by 'chunking' them into smaller parts then putting them back together. E.g. car / pet - carpet.
