Smiling, Caring and Learning Together on a Journey with God
On Friday we all went outside to look at our school poppies and to remember the people who have died in the Wars. After a prayer we had a minutes' silence and the children were very thoughtful and respectful. We talked in class about why it was important to do this and why we have Poppies and Remembrance Day on the 11th of the 11th.
In class and worship this week we have also been thinking about the significance of light and in RE we have been finding out more about the Hindu festival of light - Divali. The children enjoyed creating their own divas out of clay and creating Rangoli patterns.
It was great to see so many parents at our parents’ Mathematics morning and I know the children really enjoyed getting stuck into all the different activities with you. For those of you unable to attend there will soon be information and suggestions of how to support your child with Mathematics at home available on this website. In Mathematics this week we have been consolidating our understanding and knowledge of number bonds to 10 and moving on to number bonds to 20. See if you can challenge your child to recall these pairs of numbers that add together to make 10 or 20 using their fingers and yours to help.
We continued with the story of Room on the Broom this week and used it to help us develop our sentence writing and use of adjectives. We are also encouraging the children to take pride in their presentation and now have WOW - Work of the Week to promote the children who have tried their very best.
The children are excited about a special EAD afternoon we are having next Thursday. They have all selected a creative activity of their choice that they will be doing for the afternoon with a mix of children from all the different classes.
