Smiling, Caring and Learning Together on a Journey with God
Making and Creating in Oak Class
Thank you to all those who came and joined us for our class Worship on Tuesday. Despite a few nerves and some shyness the children did their best to share the story of Prodigal Son and the message of God's forgiveness.
Thank you also for helping to prepare the children for World Book Day. There were some imaginative and thoughtful outfits and the children really enjoyed writing and sharing their own books on the day. Thank you for your support. Hopefully you will have found your child's Book Day voucher in their book bag and will have fun choosing a book together.
We had a creative time in our English lessons this week, combining English and Art. The children continued to research African animals and made their own animals out of plasticine; considering which kinds of textures were needed. They practised representing the different textures we see on animals skins through sketching. They then created their own habitats for their animal to live in using their drawing and collage skills. In doing all of these activities they were talking about what they had done and thinking up even more adjectives to describe both what they had made and the animals in question. The children really enjoy being creative and we look forward to welcoming all you Year 1 parents to join us for our Expressive Arts and Design afternoon on Wednesday 20th.
In Mathematics we learned about arrays this week and used them to help solve problems involving multiplication e.g. "If Mum gives each of her 3 children two biscuits each, how many biscuits will that be altogether?" Next week we will use what we already know to help us divide amounts fairly. You could practise this at home sharing out toys or food equally between you.
In Science we are focussing on ourselves and our bodies this half term and this week we started thinking more about how we explore the world around us using all our senses. In the coming weeks we will be carrying out investigations using our senses to help us.
In PE we have been using our bodies in different ways to create Gymnastic sequences that involve travel and balance and learning how to use the apparatus safely and carefully. The children have come up with some original ideas and worked on evaluating and perfecting their skills.
