Smiling, Caring and Learning Together on a Journey with God
Now we are six (or nearly!)
Thank you for sending in all the photos of your children as babies. It was really interesting to see how everyone had changed and think about what we can do now and what kinds of things we did as babies. Hopefully it gave you a chance to reminisce with your child about when they were younger too.
In English we have been giving the children lots of opportunities to talk about when they were younger and compare then and now. They have also been encouraged to ask each other questions to find out more. Mrs Greenway came in with her baby last week and the children were able to ask her questions too.
In History they have been thinking about Toys Then and Now and seeing how toys have changed over time. I wonder if you have any of your old toys at home or photos of when you were young, perhaps you could share with them.
Science this half term is all about materials and this week we were thinking of all the different words we use to describe materials - rough, sparkly, fluffy, bumpy, bendy etc. We enjoyed going outside to describe the natural materials we found there.
In Maths we have been revisiting the number system, reading, writing and comparing numbers to 100 (and beyond) and thinking about how those numbers are made up of tens and ones. Hopefully this will be useful in our work on Money next week as we try paying for things using different coins and notes. Any opportunities for shopping with you, whether real or pretend, but using actual money would be very useful. We would expect them to recognise all the different coins and notes that we use by the end of Year 1.
