What a wonderful first half term we have had in cherry class!

All of the children have settled in fantasticly to school life and have learnt new routines and expectations. They have become familiar with the class environments and are now very much part of the Nyewood Family. This half term we focused on making new friends and getting to know school. I have been so pleased to see how many new friendships the children have made. They have been showing 'kindness' one of our school values throughout school.

As well as our provision which is always on offer, we have also had enhanced learning expereinces focusing on familes, ourselves, Autumn, owls and Diwali. The children have created hedgehogs with fork printing, made mud 'hot chocolates', playdough owls, rangoli patterrns, learnt Autumn songs and much much more!

Particular highlights this half term include:

    • Diversity day with Paul Sturgess
    • Harvest Worship to parents
    • Drawing club sessions with books such as 'owl babies'
    • Coin Trail

The children have also learnt many of the phase 2 phonics sounds and are beginning to blend words together to read them. In Maths we have focused with numbers within 5 and comparing amounts of 'more and less' objects and picrtures. We have also learnt the names of many 2D shapes. The children have been developing fine motor skills with a wide range of tools including cutting and we have seen a huge improvements in pencil grips and readiness for writing, drawing or mark making.

We have loved our weekly woodland sessions and it is clear that cherry class are an outside learning loving class! So we will continue to take our learning outside whenever we can!
