Nyewood CE Infant School

Smiling, Caring and Learning Together on a Journey with God

Autumn 1

We have had a great first half term of the academic year...

During the first half of the Autumn term, we have already had lots of exciting experiences. One of our favourite experiences was when Paul Sturgess, a former Harlem Globetrotter basketball player and the tallest man in the UK, came to visit us. We couldn't believe how tall he actually is! He talked to us about how he looks different but how this has given him so many fantastic opportunities. We talked about one of our school values of 'uniqueness' and how we are all different and will all have different talents. We loved our basketball workshop with Paul, learning how to dribble and bounce a basketball.

This half term we also loved our woodland session. We each had a colour wheel and had to find all the different colours in the woodland area. We found all the colours including red and yellow leaves, an orange fish, a green frog, purple berries and the blue sky!

In our writing learning we have been learning to use finger spaces between our words. As a challenge, some of us have been learning to use captial letters and full stops in our sentences too.

In our mathematics learning we have been practising our counting. We have been counting objects up to 20, making sure we can count these accurately by only saying one number name for one object. We have also been learning to count to 100 and back, in 1s and 10s.

We hope all our of our families have a lovely half term break. A reminder that the school has an INSET day on Monday 3rd November and the school will be closed on this day. We look forward to seeing the children back at school on Tuesday 4th November.
