Nyewood CE Infant School

Smiling, Caring and Learning Together on a Journey with God

Spring 1

We have had a very busy half term....

We have loved learning about our 'space' topic. At the start of this topic, we all got creative in making papier-mache planets! We got balloons and then stuck some pieces of newspaper to the balloons with watery glue. Once these dried, we were able to paint them in the colours of the different planets.

We were also very excited to get a special box from the Novium Museum with different space items inside. We looked at an astronaut helmet, jumpsuit, space blanket and much more. The clothes were very thick and heavy. We realised how difficult it must be for astronauts to move around in these.

We have learnt lots of facts about space and have been writing these to create a fact poster. We have been using writing skills, such as using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.

In mathematics, we have recently been learning about addition and subtraction equations. We have realised that there can be a link between these and have been working out 4 different equations using the same numbers.

We have come to the end of our dance unit in PE and created our class 'space' dance. The children listened to a piece of space music and thought about changing the height, speed and direction of their movements to match this. There were times in this dance where the children were independent and times when they worked together as a class – what a great achievement by all.

We hope everyone has a lovely half-term break. A reminder that the school is closed on Monday 23rd February as it is an INSET day. Therefore, we look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 24th February.
