Yesterday in school, we wrote some letters and postcards to our everyday heroes such as firefighters and the police. We then had lots of fun creating a stained glass window on the EYFS shed. In the afternoon, we went outside and collected lots of natural materials which we used to make self-portraits. We hope you have been enjoying your home learning too!

Please find today’s home learning below.

    READING

In reading this week we will be focussing on the super six skill of Questioning. Using the book you read yesterday, have a go at answering these questions:

What does the main character look like?

How do you think he/she felt when…

    Why do you think that?

If the main character was younger, how would it change the story?

    WRITING

At the moment in Writing we will be focusing on writing letters. One of the skills we are practising to be able to write our letters is using a variety of different sentence starters. Here are some boring sentences. Can you edit them so they have more exciting sentence starters?  E.g. ‘I have been to the beach.’ Could be changed to ‘On a boiling, hot, sunny day, I went to the beach.’

I had a bucket and spade.

    The sea was choppy.

    I went to the park.

    I went to the shops.

    The forest was dark.

    MATHEMATICS

In mathematics today, we would like you to play the game below to practice adding and taking away ten or adding or taking one. The activities below are at three levels, pick the level that you think is best for you.

    https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/chopper-squad

Blue - Pick a number up to 30, count on or back to find one more or less.

Yellow- Pick a number to 100, count on or back to find one more or less. Choose a number ending in a zero. What do you notice if you go up or down the columns?

Red – Pick a number to 100, count on or back to find ten more or less.

    TOPIC

Today’s topic lesson is about design technology.
Using the shopping list you wrote yesterday, can you use your chosen ingredients to design a healthy snack? Can you draw a picture of your snack? You could make a pattern using your ingredients or even a picture!
Can you write about the foods you have chosen and why you have chosen these ingredients?

Welcome to your first day of home learning. We hope you enjoy the activities set, but please remember that playing with your toys, helping out at home and chatting to others are also important activities.

    READING

In reading this week we will be focussing on the super six skill of Questioning. To help us answer questions, we need to get to know the story. Choose a fiction book from your book bag, folder or house and read it to your adult. Now retell it to your adult, brother/sister, cat or dog!

    WRITING

At the moment in Writing we will be focusing on writing letters. Last week we explored a range of letters and looked at their features. One of the skills we are practising to be able to write our letters is using different joining words to join two sentences together. Here are some challenges for you to practise this. Start at the blue challenge and then if you feel able to, challenge yourself with the yellow or the red!

Blue- Can you join two sentences using the word ‘and’? e.g. I have a blue coat and I have a red hat.

Yellow- Can you join two sentences using the words ‘because’ and ‘or’? e.g. I am going on holiday because I need a break.

Red- Can you join two sentences using the words ‘if’, ‘when’ and ‘so’? e.g. I will need to write to you again if I have changed my plans.

    MATHEMATICS

In mathematics today, we would like you to play the game below to practice making numbers using tens and ones. The activities below are at three levels, pick the level that you think is best for you.

    https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/place-value-basketball

Blue - Pick a number to 40, can you make the total using 10p and 1p coins?

Yellow Pick a number to 100, can you make the total using 10p and 1p coins?

Red – Pick a number above 100, can you make the total using £1, 10p and 1p coins?

    TOPIC

Today’s topic lesson is about design technology.

Using your learning from our recent science/PSED lessons on food groups, can you create a shopping list of items you could use to make a healthy snack. What food groups are these items from? What makes it a healthy snack?

  • World Book Day

    Published 06/03/20, by Jo Macrae

This week we loved dressing up as an animal character from a book. We had an amazing selection. We spent the day writing our own animal books and shared them with the whole school in the afternoon.

In writing we have been thinking about extending our sentences by using words like because, when or if. We have also been using our 'Have a Go' books to try out our spellings if we are not sure which way to spell a word.

In mathematics we were looking at finding fractions of a number and how we can draw a picture to help us.

Don't forget that next week is Sports Relief on Friday and the children can come to school in their sport clothes.
