Nyewood CE Infant School
Smiling, Caring and Learning Together on a Journey with God
Monday 18th May
This week in writing we are going to practise a range of core skills. Today we are going to practise our handwriting.
Use this website to check your letter formation; https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/letterformation/
Can you write some words or sentences about your favourite hobby or animal using your super letter formation?
If you are joining your handwriting, can you remember how we join our letters in school? Practise these at home writing about your favourite hobby or animal.
This week we are going to be looking at the Super Six strategy, Visualising. Visualising is when you make mental images from something. Visualising brings the text to life and uses your imagination too.
Today we would like your adults or brothers or sisters to choose a fiction book you haven’t read before, or for a long while. For most of the week we would like your adults or brothers or sisters to make sure you don’t get to see the book, you will just be hearing it, so make sure it is kept a secret! Ask your adults, or brothers or sisters to read you the book and whilst you’re listening, close your eyes. Try and picture the story in your mind. When the book has finished discuss with the person with you what you visualised in your head. Remember this as you’ll need it for the rest of the week!
Today in mathematics we will be learning about addition. We will be adding two numbers together to make a bigger number. Use the challenges below to know which size number to choose. Pick two numbers and add them together.
Blue- two numbers up to 10
Yellow- two numbers up to 30
Red- two numbers up to 100
Challenge- What do you notice when you add together 29 and 68? What happens to the ones? Explain.
You might like to use counting objects or number lines to add numbers together. Or try using dienes: remember a stick is a ten and a dot is a one. Take a look below to help you!
34 + 12 = 46
Today in topic we will be doing music. Using things from around your house (boxes, yoghurt pots, toilet roll tubes etc.) make your own musical instruments. You could make a shaker, drum, guitar, rain maker or make up your own and name it!
Daily fitness challenge:
How many star jumps can you do in 30 seconds? Now do it again, can you beat your time?
