EYFS 6Weeks In
On Thursday 16 October 2025 we held our EYFS '6Weeks In' meeting. In this section you will find our '6 Weeks In' documents discussed as part of the workshop. There are also some additional resources that may support you with learning at home. If you have any questions about the 6 weeks in meeting, or you were unable to attend, please speak to your child's teacher. If you have lost any of the phonics cards, name tracing cards or number cards, please ask your teacher and we will make another copy for you.
Independence Skills
Support your child to become independent by ticking off the following skills. We recommend focusing on one skills at a time and rewarding children for their success.
- Putting on their coat and doing up their zip
- Taking off and putting on their school shoes/ wellies (doing up velro)
- Changing themselves
- Washing their hands properly
- Going to the toilet
- Using a knife and fork
- Recognising their name
- Using scissors to cut paper
Phonics and Reading
We teach phonics daily, reviewing learning, teaching new sounds and giving children to opportunity to practice reading words, sentences and writing words. We follow the Little Wandle scheme of learning for Phonics. Please see the link below for parent information on their website. In the packs the children have the phase 2 and 3 sounds and tricky words. We suggest having these on display, using them as flashcards before reading their phonics books or playing 'pairs games' with them. We recommend reading to your child daily as part of their routine and them reading their phonics books to you 5 times a week for 5-10minutes. Little and often will really help them to embed phonics knowledge. Sign up to a free library card to access a range of books from your local library.

Writing
Support your child with writing at home by looking at which sounds we are teaching each week on Tapestry and practising the letter formation of these sounds at home. Use your child's name card to help them with practising to write their name. Make mark making fun, draw on the pavement with chalks, make treasure maps or even writing tricky words on bananas!
Maths
Numeral Cards 0-20
Please feel free to cut these up and use them creatively. Here are some ideas of how to use them beyond basic ordering and reading:
Game 1 – Treasure Hunt
Hold up one number at a time. Can your child go and find that amount of objects and match them to each card? e.g. 3 Paw Patrol Characters, 6 teaspoons, 20 raisins etc. Extend to combining two sets e.g. if we count the raisins and teaspoons, how many objects do we have altogether? If I eat one raisin, how many are left?
Game 2 – Pairs
Using the cards provided, place all card face down. Players take it in turns to turn over two cards (one numeral card and one picture card). If the number and quantity match, the player keeps the pair. Extend by using only one set of cards to match number bonds i.e. two number cards that add up to 10 or 20.
Game 3 – Let’s Subitise!
Find small objects such as Blind Bag toys or Lego people that you can count. Grab a small handful (up to 5) and ask your child to visualise/tell you how many there are without actually counting them. Count together to check. This can also be done easily with fruit. How many slices of apple do you think you have? How many segments do you think there are in this orange? Can they match them to the correct number card? Does your child know that if you have 5 objects and arrange them in different patterns, the answer will still be five?
Game 4 – Go Shop!
Use the number cards as price tags and attach to toys or household objects. Can they count out the correct number of coins from the 1p jar to pay with?
